Kindergarten Physical Education Scope and Sequence


Fitness
·        Participate in daily activities that require physical exertion for short periods of time.
·        Recognize physiological signs of moderate physical activity.
·        Identify benefits of physical activity.

Motor Skills
·        Demonstrate personal and general spatial awareness in a variety of movement activities.
·        Demonstrate body awareness: identify and use specified body parts.
·        Demonstrate a variety of loco-motor (walk, hop, roll, etc.) and non-locomotor (balance, bend, reach, etc.) movements.
·        Explore manipulative skills (throw, catch, kick, bounce, roll, etc.).
·        Participate in introductory rhythm and dance activities.

Social and Emotional
·        Follow rules and manage equipment responsibly.
·        Recognize and accept personal differences.
·        Cooperate with others.
·        Demonstrate simple problem solving.
·        Demonstrate joy in movement.
·        Demonstrate appropriate risk-taking.

Knowledge
·        Follow simple rules and procedures for the activity setting.

·        Follow safety rules in the activity setting.

Kindergarten Grade Level Expectations

Demonstrates mature walking form and maintains a rhythmic pattern while stationary
Demonstrates stability while jumping, walking, and starting and stopping movement
Demonstrates the emerging manipulative skills (throwing, catching, kicking, and rolling a ball) from a stationary position
Understands and uses the concepts of pathways (e.g. straight, curve, zig – zag), levels (e.g. low, medium, high), and directions (e.g. forward, backward, sideway, diagonal, up, down) with locomotor skills
Demonstrates body and spatial awareness through safe movement
Demonstrates balance
Locate the major parts of the body
