Awesome 3000 is May 5th this year. Being looking for the paperwork to come home after spring break. You can also sign up online at Awesome 3000 Sign Up.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16635403.post-80430634956237233822018-03-16T16:12:00.000-07:002018-03-22T16:18:22.465-07:00Country Kids RelaysIt is that time again, the time trials for the Country Kids Relays has begun! The Country Kids Relays will be May 19th this year, two weeks after the Awesome 3000.

Time trials have been taking place during part of the PE classes these past couple of weeks, weather permitting. My goal is to have every student have a couple different chances to get timed and to post the teams by spring break. However, if the weather does not cooperate I will not post the teams until after spring break when all of the students have had an equal opportunity to run.

Do you have to be fast to be on the team? Being fast is important, but it takes more than speed to represent Forest Ridge on race day. The 6 boys and 6 girls chosen from each grade may not be the fastest, but they have been selected by their speed and their behavior they demonstrate in the classroom throughout the school year. It is a very busy day with many things going on and people every where and for the safety of the students if a student is unable to be responsible in the classroom I will not select them to represent this year's team.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

Thank you and have a great weekend!
The Awesome 3000 is May 6th and the Country Kids Relays are May 20th. Look for more information coming in March.

Remember the Awesome 3000 is open to all Forest Ridge students, as is the Country Kids Relays. However, remember students are chosen to represent Forest Ridge for the Country Kids Relays. Team selections are not done solely on a students time trials. (Time trials begin in Mid-March) Students not demonstrating Forest Ridge S.O.A.R. (Safe, Organized, Achieve, Respectful) behavior during school will NOT be chosen to represent the school.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As always, I am here to answer any questions you may have.

Students work with various types of equipment that bounces. Basketball, tennis ball, spider ball....In each receptacle there is a ball and students must bounce that ball into the container one time. Once they've accomplished their goal they exit the Bounce House area and climb the rock wall. Once that is completed they are back in the Bounce House. There are various levels of difficulty they students can choose from. A fun way to work on being persistent and not giving up on a difficult challenge, and a little geometry with angles and force needed.
This is a question I hear from time to time and believe it or not physical education is a class, yes I am a teacher, yes we are going to play, and we also are going to be assessed in class. Normally this is done with a quick pencil paper exit slip that ask the students a question about what we covered either that day or during that week. Well out with the old and in with Plickers.

Plickers is an app I recently discovered from another PE teacher in Massachusetts that lets me use my iPad to quickly assess an entire class. I believe these cards are going to change and improve how I assess in class. We just introduced it to classes this week and we will start using it more frequently each and everyday. How does it work?

Each student has a Plicker card assigned to them

I create questions that are presendted to the class and can be multiple choice or True or False

Students hold up their card based on what they think the answer is. Each card has the letters A, B,C, D on it and their answer is the letter at the top of the card

Finally, I scan the class using the iPads camera and I am giving instant feedback on the answers
